The basics

What is colon hydrotherapy?

A gentle, water-based cleanse of the large intestine (the colon), carried out privately and under professional supervision. Here's what it actually involves — in plain English — so you can decide if it's right for you.

Colon hydrotherapy — also called colonic irrigation or a "colonic" — uses a flow of warm, filtered water to gently rinse the colon. A qualified practitioner guides the whole process, and a single visit usually takes around 45 to 60 minutes.

How it works, simply

Warm, temperature-controlled water is introduced into the colon at a low, comfortable pressure. The water softens and helps move along the natural contents of the bowel, which then leave the body through an enclosed system — so the process stays clean, private and odour-free. Your practitioner manages the flow and checks in with you throughout.

There are two approaches — an open system (more self-directed and private) and a closed system (practitioner-assisted). They reach a similar result in a slightly different way. We help you choose the one you'll feel most at ease with.

Not sure which suits you? Our open vs closed system guide breaks down the difference in two minutes — or just ask us when you call.

Why people choose it

Most clients come to us simply wanting to feel lighter and more comfortable. Colon hydrotherapy is widely chosen as part of a general wellbeing and self-care routine. People commonly tell us they book a session:

  • as a reset after a period of rich food, travel or feeling sluggish
  • because they like the feeling of being clean and comfortable afterwards
  • as a regular part of how they look after themselves

Experiences differ from person to person. Colon hydrotherapy is a complementary wellbeing service — it isn't a treatment for any medical condition, and it isn't a substitute for advice from your doctor.

Is it right for me?

Plenty of our clients are first-timers who felt a little nervous before their visit and completely at ease once they arrived. Privacy, comfort and a calm, unhurried environment are the things we focus on most. If you have an existing health condition, are pregnant, or take regular medication, please check with your GP first and let us know when you book so we can look after you properly.

What happens at a visit

Your first visit includes a friendly chat about what to expect, the session itself, and a little time to settle afterwards. There's nothing complicated to organise beforehand — we send simple preparation notes when you book. For the full run-through, see how a session works and what to expect.

A note on health claims. Colon hydrotherapy is offered as a complementary wellbeing service. It is not a treatment, cure or diagnosis for any medical condition. If you have a specific health concern, please consult your GP or a qualified medical practitioner.
